Cheryl Temple5 StarReally can’t recommend this garage enough, I had bought a second hand recently and had it inspected by another garage who informed me it required a wheel bearing, brakes and tracking. Their quote was quite high so shopped around, came across J&G who provided a much more reasonable quote so booked in for the brakes and wheel bearing as I had the tracking done already. Communication was great from the lady in the office. Dropped my car off and was offered a lift to my mums which was appreciated however she picked me up, an hour and half later I get a call to tell me that the wheel bearing didn’t need replacing just the brakes and that it was all done! Finding a garage who is both competitive in price and honest is a rare find, especially as a young woman. Few weeks later my car was booked in for its MOT at a Halfords garage which are known for finding even the smallest of faults and my car passed with flying colours not even an advisory! J&G could have easily said they had replaced the wheel bearing and charged me and I wouldn’t have known any difference due to the noise of the brakes being the issue and then resolving that. I won’t take my car anywhere else from now on :)Tuesday 2nd August 2022
perry wakeford1 StarHaving visited this garage which had recently opened i asked them to prepare my newly bought campervan to a standard which would be MOT ready.. and also to have the tracking done.
Being a used vehicle i put my trust in their hands and was told after an inspection any necessary work would be carried out.
So far so good..
Their diagnoses was to fit..
New front discs and pads.
1 new front caliper.
Re-wire 1 side light.
Un seize rear binding handbrake.
Tracking.
After a week or so my vehicle was ready for collection, Cost £730.
I was very pleased to think my vehicle was now ready for its MOT.
After arranging for my wife to take me the 6 miles to the garage to collect, I asked if the tracking had been done as requested and was told they forgot so would have to call again the following day.
Upon collecting the next day just before closing time i realised on the 6 mile journey home the rear brakes were squeeling much louder than before it went to the garage and the brake pedal pressed almost to the floor. The following morning i phoned and told them about the alarming sound of the rear brakes along with the steering wheel being very off centre. They said the steering wheel was due to uneven tyre wear but bring it back for them to try and rectify the brakes.
Due to the uneven tyre wear i made my next and only journey to my local tyre fitter who fitted 2 new front tyres but could not do the tracking as the wheel had a lot of excess play and the wheel bearing was damaged.
Upon recommendation from the tyre fitter I had a very thorough and professional mechanic just 1 mile away assess the situation.
This very thorough mechanic and gentleman has proved to be my saviour.
He said that previously someone had fitted the wheel bearing incorrectly, so let it be known i do not blame J&G autos for that.. even so my vehicle had only travelled 7 miles since they supposedly made it MOT ready.
I was told by my new mechanic..
The retaining nut was missing from the wheel bearing.
The front O/S caliper sliders were seized.
The rear brakes were binding.
1 rear light and 1 side light were defective.
2 ball joints were not likely to pass an MOT.
And his most serious concern was 1 cab mount was completely perished, none existent.
His professional opinion was that the inspection, assessment and work which i had payed J&G a lot of money for was a joke.
All of the above should have been spotted, inspected and repaired within the cost of my £730 bill as i did request J&G Autos to make my vehicle worthy of passing an MOT.
After informing J&G autos of this, firstly they said how do they know this as my vehicle is now at another garage being repaired..
Also they said I had been driving the vehicle all over, when in fact i pointed out it travelled 6 miles home plus 1 mile to the tyre fitters..
They also said "well we charged you "F... All" labour anyway"..
but did say if i take it back they will have another look at the brakes.
I pointed out that if they had charged me for more labour then MAYBE all the work and inspection MAY have been done correctly and that if i had taken my vehicle for an MOT in the state it was after their professional diagnosis and repairs, It would have most certainly failed with flying colours.
please make up your own decision upon reading this review.
I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS GARAGE FOR EVEN THE MOST SIMPLE ASPECTS OF MECHANICS..
After reading some of the reviews and comparing to my personal experience i cant help but wonder that they seem like self promoting advertising..
I DO NOT RECCOMEND J&G AUTOS.
Kind Regards
